RESIDENTS at a care home in Taunton would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to a family-run Christmas tree farm in the area for its donation of a real Christmas tree (December, 2019).
Six residents at Abbeyfield’s Frank Bond House on Heron Drive in Bishops Hull travelled to Langford Lakes Christmas Tree Farm in Langford Budville recently to choose their complimentary tree.
Trudy Hendy from Langford Lakes Christmas Tree Farm, which is based at Middle Hill Farm, said: “Each year we donate three large Christmas trees to the Taunton, Wiveliscombe and Wellington town centres but this year we wanted to do even more and spread our Christmas spirit further.
“We had 100 Nordmann Fir Christmas trees available during November to donate to charities in Somerset and we were thrilled that Liz Sharkey and Janice Bullivant from Abbeyfield’s Frank Bond House got in touch.
“We were delighted to welcome the six residents to our shop and plantation. They were able to browse our festive decoration displays and enjoy a mince pie and a hot drink. We then helped them choose their Nordmann Fir Christmas tree, which has been lovingly grown by us on our farm.”
Langford Lakes Christmas Tree Farm also donated Christmas trees to St Margaret’s Hospice, Brook Green Early Years, SeeAbility, Lodge Close Extra Care Home, Somerset Sight and Reminiscence Learning.
Janice Bullivant, Activity Coordinator and Head of Department at Abbeyfield’s Frank Bond House, explained: “We have been visiting Langford Lakes for our Christmas tree since 2012 and have made this a festive activity. We always visit the Christmas shop and enjoy the delicious mince pies and hot chocolate. Therefore, to be selected as a recipient for a donated tree was wonderful!”
Abbeyfield is a charity for older people providing housing across the UK and internationally. Its mission is to enhance the quality of life for older people through high quality accommodation in a stimulating environment to maintain a socially active life.
Frank Bond House, which is managed by Abbeyfield Somerset Society, is a purpose-built residential care home, which also offers dementia care and day care. The care home accommodates 44 residents, 27 in single en-suite rooms, and six apartments, which are suitable for married couples.
Langford Lakes Christmas Tree Farm, which is well-known for its home grown, freshly cut Christmas trees, is a family run 40-acre farm that is located close to the nature reserve Langford Heathfield, a mile outside of Langford Budville in Somerset.
Langford Lakes Christmas Tree Farm is also hoping to collect as much money as possible for Children’s Hospice South West. It will be offering mince pies and teas and coffees for a donation to the charity if people wish to make one.
The refreshments will be on offer until its last day of trading before Christmas on December 23. Last year it managed to raise £3,662 for the organisation.
Langford Lakes Christmas Tree Farm is owned and run by Reg and his wife Ann and their two sons and daughters-in-law, Shaun, Trudy, Nick and Clare. The family has been growing and selling Christmas trees for more than 20 years.
Trudy added: “We offer a large selection of Christmas decorations to suit a range of festive themes from decorations that sparkle to Nordic and vibrant, colourful items. We also stock fresh, handmade Christmas wreaths. Come along this month to get some new decorations for your home and see our displays and pick up your fresh tree.”
Langford Lakes Christmas Tree Farm is open every day until Monday, December 23, 2019.
