SOMERSET folk challenged their general knowledge last Friday (September 10, 2021) to help raise funds for charity during a quiz evening at a farm shop in the county.
The Charity Quiz & Supper Evening in aid of Conquest Centre, which is based in Norton Fitzwarren, was held at Rumwell Farm Shop on Friday, September 10 and raised £560.
Anne Mitchell, Joint Owner of the Farm Shop, which is located on the A38 between Taunton and Wellington, said: “This was our first quiz night of the year and what a fantastic fundraiser! The money was raised from entry fees, a raffle and a mini auction. We would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to everyone who came along and helped us raise such a fantastic amount of money. The evening went really well with a lovely atmosphere.
“Our Charity Quiz & Supper Evenings have proven very popular with our customers over the past few years, and they are a great chance for families, friends and work colleagues to get together for some healthy competition.
“The winning team this time was ‘Clueless’, who was made up of Steven Perry, Rod and Nicola Seal, Dylan and Megan Bolton and Carolyn Broom.
Conquest Centre’s mission is: ‘To provide therapeutic support involving equines, small animals and the environment to enable each individual to thrive.’ All activities are delivered by qualified instructors with specialist expertise in working with people with additional physical and behavioural or emotional needs, and are supported by a team of specially trained volunteers.
Core activities include riding, horse and small animal care, Thrive Approach Therapy and sensory work, all provided in either group or private sessions as appropriate.
Rumwell Farm Shop is an independent, family-run, award-winning business owned by the Mitchell family. It was originally a potato store, when David and Anne Mitchell began selling their potatoes and free-range eggs at the gate.
Due to customer demand, the product range soon increased, and the business grew. David and Anne’s sons, James and Jack, are now also involved, as well as their daughters-in-law, Sophie and Donna.
Rumwell Farm Shop has a traditional Butchery counter selling its home-reared and free-range pork and Rumwell Angus beef. There is also The Rumwell Flower Shed on-site, a Delicatessen, Bakery, Jam Kitchen, Food Hall, Wine Cellar and Gift Room.
Its own, home-grown potatoes are available, when in season, as well as everything from fruit, vegetables and groceries to plants, mostly British-grown cut flowers, gifts and cards.
The Rumwell Café is a large and spacious building. The food prepared in the café kitchen is sourced from the Farm Shop, the Mitchell family farm, which is just four miles away, and other regional suppliers.
Families are welcome to the café and there is a menu especially for children. It also serves afternoon teas, roast carvery Sunday lunches and is licensed to sell alcoholic beverages.
