SOMERSET folk keen to keep their food miles down can tuck into a Westcountry-sourced festive lunch at a multi-award-winning farm shop in the county in the run up to Christmas (December 2023).

Visitors to Rumwell Farm Shop can celebrate with traditional fare, sourced from the Westcountry whenever possible, as part of a Christmas lunch menu available daily, excluding Sundays, until December 23.

Anne Mitchell, Partner at the Farm Shop, which is located on the A38 between Taunton and Wellington, says: “We look set to sell more than 8,000 sprouts, 10,000 pigs-in-blankets using our own farm pork to make them and 20,000 Rumwell-grown potatoes for roasting this Christmas. However, not everyone wants to cook or clear up afterwards, so they can come to us in the run-up to the big day and we’ll do all the work, and they can tuck into Westcountry-sourced produce that’s part of our Christmas lunch menu, which is available until December 23.

“We’d love it if people brought their family, friends, work teams or colleagues for a plated, table service Christmas lunch here with us to celebrate the festive season in style. Our wonderful chefs prepare Christmas roast lunches every day at the moment, excluding Sundays, for you to enjoy. You can choose from two or three courses too.

“There are a selection of starters and a trio of mains including roast turkey with all the festive accompaniments, or cod and spinach streusel served with seasonal vegetables and a rich bisque sauce or Portobello mushroom, sweet potato and garlic ‘mille feuille’ served with seasonal vegetables and warm red pepper pesto. Plus, we’ve three desserts available too: Rumwell Christmas pudding with brandy sauce, rhubarb and custard brûlée served with a vanilla shortbread biscuit or a steamed dark chocolate sponge served with white chocolate and orange sauce. Vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free options are included.

“This year we’ve seen a growing trend towards people seeking out traditional British festive ingredients and where possible looking for Westcountry and Somerset sourced items. Our waiting staff are on-hand to discuss the provenance of our produce with our diners.

“Not only are we set to sell thousands of sprouts, pigs-in-blankets and potatoes in our Shop and Café this year, but we also make hundreds of additional Christmas puddings and cakes on-site and more than 1,000 mince pies in our Bakery. – not mentioning Xmas doughnuts as if can, will so a sep release on these JFYR.

“Our Deli team also uses our farm eggs and pork to create a traditional Festive Pie featuring apricots, chestnuts, slices of chicken breast and free-range sausage meat made from our pork. And British and Westcountry cheeses are also proving more popular than ever.”
