Ellie Ley-Morgan from Weston-Super-Mare is one of our Junior PR consultants. She is responsible for clients’ blog posts, media releases and social media.
Ellie joined us in early 2021, and we caught up with her recently to find out more.
Before Porcupine PR
Prior to joining the Porcupine PR team, she participated in a digital marketing apprenticeship and it was during this she became interested in PR.
Ellie says: “A lot of my roles since graduating have been around this area, although my degree was a BA (Hons) in 3D Interior and Spatial Design.
“Before joining Porcupine, I was working in the hospitality industry while seeking a full-time position. I was interested in the role as it’s a good way to use my skillset from a different perspective and this trainee position really allows that.”
So, what does a normal day look like for Ellie?
“We start work at 9am and as we’re all working from home, we email each other to catch up on our evenings. I catch up on any emails that may have come in overnight.
“I then write up my daily tasks’ list, adding anything from the emails that have come in and organising my priorities depending on the deadlines. I could be doing anything from planning social media posts for a client to writing something more extensive such as a media release or blog post or even some editorial for a national publication.
“Once drafted we all check each other’s work before sending to the client for their approval. After it’s all been checked and approved, I can then schedule the social media post, issue the release or editorial to the press or upload the blog. I also keep an eye on a couple of clients’ social media pages too, liking any comments or replying to any messages/queries for them.
“We have tea breaks throughout the day and an hour’s lunch, some of us at one time and some at the other, so there is always someone about throughout the day to pick up any phone calls that come in too.
“We then finish work at 5.30pm (5pm on a Friday) and email round again wishing each other lovely evenings, discussing any plans we may have. We do weekly Zooms when technology allows too!”
How have you found settling in?
“I like my colleagues and that it’s a small-knit, friendly, and focused team. Although we’re remote, it’s still welcoming.
“I enjoy that there are plenty of opportunities to learn on the job, as well as the sense of achievement when something you’ve done improves our lovely clients’ businesses.”
Tell us how do you spend your spare time?
“I’m currently doing a PG dip in Graphic Design on the Falmouth University’s flexible course, which keeps me busy.
“Since the lockdowns, I’ve also picked up reading more regularly and baking. I also enjoy going to the cinema, spending time with friends and walking Honey, our family dog.”
Lastly, how would your friends describe you?
“I think they’d definitely describe me as being creative, but it’s more than just designing things, it’s also about being flexible and using initiative too.
“Beyond being creative, they’d probably say I am organised and empathetic. I thrive on lists and sticky notes; planning helps me sort out what’s going on/needs doing, which is vital in this role! Although my personal space/desk is fairly messy, I understand it.
“Having come from a creative background and degree, which revolves around creating solutions for others by trying to understand their problems, I have learnt to be a good listener and observer.”
