A CHRISTMAS decorations expert from Somerset has unveiled her key trends for the 2022 festive season (2022).
Trudy Hendy, who is the Christmas decoration buyer for the Crafts at Christmas shop at Langford Lakes Christmas Tree Farm in Langford Budville, has revealed what she expects to see on trees nationwide this Christmas.
Trudy explained: “After a tumultuous few years, shoppers are prioritising human connections, homeliness and cosiness during the festive season this year, as we’ve really come to realise what is important in life.
“Traditional red and gold colours are back again for Christmas 2022, as people evoke nostalgic memories of Christmases gone by. As we all know, bright reds really pop against the traditional greens. And gold gives that bit of the glitz that we all crave at the darkest time of the year.
“We’ll also see the roaring twenties return across our Christmas decorations this year, as shoppers opt for opulent decorations adorned with feathers, beads and crystals.
“Gonks are also really having their moment, as many people, like me, have deemed them to be an all-year-round decoration. They’re not just for Christmas, as they can also make an appearance on shelves, tablescapes and mantelpieces nearly all year, but particularly in the autumn onwards. So, an investment in a gonk or two will pay dividends as you can use them before the festivities start! Plus, they can be cute and cuddly. In a nod to Scandinavian and Nordic mythology, this year these little fellas come in very popular shades of white and grey or black and white, for a more naturalist or purist, contemporary monochrome look.
“Other popular trends we’re seeing this year include nature-inspired decs, soft pinks and peaches and colourful, rainbow tones. Rainbow coloured decorations are great for lifting spirits when we all need a boost mid-winter.”
Shoppers are also looking to up their homes’ kerb appeal this yuletide with festive door displays fit for Instagram feed frenzies.
“A wreath or festive garland is simply not enough for homeowners these days; people are now going all out with fabulous foliage and lights adorning their entire front doors and porches and even extending to the front steps. The doorscaping trend is absolutely huge at the moment and is a great way to welcome guests that are eating with you this year.”
The Crafts at Christmas shop at Langford Lakes Christmas Tree Farm is now open to the public. The shop is packed full of decorations, lights, wreaths and more. A limited range of Christmas trees will be available to purchase, with a full range being available from November 19.
