SOUTHAMPTON folk are being asked to design a doughnut to win a competition to see their creation crowned as May’s Doughnut of The Month at a community bakery in the city (February 2023).
Communibakes at 21, St James Road in Shirley is asking people to suggest ideas and the best one will be created to celebrate King Charles III’s Coronation.
Ally Molyneaux, Bakery Manager, who is Cordon Bleu trained and was a private cook for the Royal family at Kensington Palace, says: “Our doughnuts are always a huge hit in the bakery and we have lots of fun coming up with the different flavours and toppings for them, so we thought it would be a good idea to get our customers involved too and run a competition to design a doughnut fit for a king.
“We’re asking adults and children to come up with a unique doughnut topping for our ring doughnuts and submit their ideas to us. The winner will have their doughnut made and sold in our bakery throughout May to celebrate the King’s Coronation on May 6.
“We want to see some really regal and original doughnut ideas. Any decorations on entries must be edible. Entries, including drawings and any recipes, can be submitted via email to hello@communibakes.co.uk and should be sent to us by 5pm on Friday, March 31.
“We’ll pick a winner and announce it on our social media pages on April 14 and the winning doughnut will be served throughout May. The winner will also receive four doughnuts to enjoy themselves at home and be asked to collect their prize, and have their photos taken for publicity, including social media, at a mutually convenient time before the end of April, during our normal opening hours. Children who enter need to have their submissions sent in by their parents or guardians, who will need to give permission for publicity.”
CommuniBakes (previously Love Cake) was purchased to help raise funds for Communicare in November 2021 and is a separated limited company. All profits from the bakes sold go towards the charity and the work it does to help lonely and isolated people across Southampton.
Communicare, which is a friendly, neighbourhood charity, provides services that enrich the lives of lonely and isolated people in and around Southampton.
Its services are staffed by its devoted volunteers, known as Communiteers, who give their time freely.
The charity is currently supporting around 600 individuals/families through tasks including one-to-one telephone support and transport for essential appointments and assistance with shopping.
The services Communicare provides are free to users, although beneficiaries are invited to make a donation if they are able to, and Communiteers are offered expenses.
