A CHARITY based near Taunton has recently received a donation of £1,620 from a farm shop in the area to help it continue providing horse-based activities for adults and children (February 2022).
The funds were raised for Conquest Centre by staff and customers at Rumwell Farm Shop & Café throughout 2020 and 2021.
Anne Mitchell, Joint Owner of the farm shop and café, which is located on the A38 between Taunton and Wellington, explained: “We’re so pleased to have raised such a great amount of money for Conquest Centre, which was our chosen charity for 2020. Due to the Pandemic and many of our fundraising plans being cancelled, we decided to continue supporting it throughout 2021 too.
“We donated 10p from every bag of jazzies sold and the proceeds from all our 5p carrier bags sold in 2021. We also hosted a quiz night in aid of the charity, when restrictions allowed, and money raised from entry fees, raffles and auctions, was also added to the pot.”
Conquest Centre’s mission is: ‘To provide therapeutic support involving equines, small animals and the environment to enable each individual to thrive.’ All activities are delivered by qualified instructors with specialist expertise in working with people with additional physical and behavioural or emotional needs and are supported by a team of specially trained volunteers.
Core activities include riding, horse and small animal care, Thrive Approach Therapy, sensory work and education on equine behaviour, all provided in either group or private sessions as appropriate.
Kate Blackmore, Equine Behaviourist & Trainer at Conquest Centre, said: “We’d like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to Rumwell Farm Shop and all of its incredibly generous customers for raising such a fantastic amount of money for us, especially during such a difficult two years.
“It will really make a huge difference to the work that we do and we’re sure everyone who uses our services will be extremely grateful too.”
Rumwell Farm Shop is an independent, family-run, award-winning business owned by the Mitchell family. It was originally a potato store, when David and Anne Mitchell began selling their potatoes and free-range eggs at the gate.
Due to customer demand, the range of products soon increased, and the farm shop grew into the place it is today. David and Anne’s sons, James and Jack, are now also involved in the business, as well as daughters-in-law Sophie and Donna.
Rumwell Farm Shop has a traditional Butchery counter selling its home-reared and free-range pork and Rumwell Angus beef. There is also The Rumwell Flower Shed on-site, a Delicatessen, Bakery, Jam Kitchen, Food Hall, Wine Cellar and Gift Room.
The Rumwell Café is a large and spacious building. The food prepared in the Café kitchen is sourced from the Farm Shop, the Mitchell family farm, which is just four miles away, and other regional suppliers.
Families are welcome to the Café and there is a menu especially for children. It also serves afternoon teas, roast carvery Sunday lunches and is licensed to sell alcoholic beverages.
