CURRY is back on the events menu at an award-winning farm shop in Somerset after more than two years absence thanks to COVID and subsequent necessary restrictions (March 2022).

Rumwell Farm Shop held its last Curry Night in 2019 and had planned to host more in 2020 and 2021, but the pandemic struck and the events were postponed.

Anne Mitchell, Joint Owner of the farm shop, located on the A38 between Taunton and Wellington, says: “We’re delighted to be able once again to host one of our popular Curry Nights on Friday, April 8. Our 2022 events are even more special this year, as they all form part of our 25th anniversary and each one promises to be a wonderful celebration to mark the occasion.

“We’d love it for anyone who enjoys their curry to once again come along and have a traditional Indian meal prepared by our talented kitchen team in the wonderful surroundings of our award-winning café.

“Each table will be provided with a selection of curries to choose from including beef madras, featuring our Rumwell Angus beef hand-reared on our farm just up the road, chicken korma and vegetable biriyani.

“Plus, a variety of side dishes such as aromatic pilau rice, poppadoms, garlic, coconut or peshwari naan bread, onion bhajis and sag aloo, all made by our chefs here onsite.

“The main dishes will be followed by a selection of delicious homemade desserts, which can be ordered separately on the night. Doors open at 6.30pm. Tickets cost £15.95 per person and booking via our website is essential. The evening finishes at 10.30pm.

“It’s very important to us that we use as much locally and regionally sourced ingredients as possible in our dishes and that produce grown and reared on our family farm, just four miles from the shop, are included where possible too. Sustainability, provenance and the reduction of food miles are very much part of our ethos here.”

Rumwell Farm Shop is an independent, family-run, award-winning business owned by the Mitchell family. It was originally a potato store, when David and Anne Mitchell began selling their potatoes and free-range eggs at the gate 25 years ago.

Due to customer demand, the range of products soon increased, and the farm shop grew into the place it is today. David and Anne’s sons, James and Jack, are now also involved in the business, as well as daughters-in-law Sophie and Donna.

Rumwell Farm Shop has a traditional Butchery counter selling its home-reared and free-range pork and Rumwell Angus beef. There is also The Rumwell Flower Shed on-site, a Delicatessen, Bakery, Jam Kitchen, Food Hall, Wine Cellar and Gift Room.

The Rumwell Café is a large and spacious building. The food prepared in the Café kitchen is sourced from the Farm Shop, the Mitchell family farm, which is just up the road, and other regional suppliers.

Families are welcome to the Café and there is a menu especially for children. It also serves afternoon teas, roast carvery Sunday lunches and is licensed to sell alcoholic beverages.
