SOMERSET folk keen to keep their food miles down this Christmas will be able to tuck into a Westcountry-sourced festive lunch at an award-winning farm shop in the county (November and December 2022).

Visitors to Rumwell Farm Shop can celebrate the festivities with traditional fare, sourced from the Westcountry where possible, as part of a Christmas roast lunch available daily, excluding Sundays from November 28.

Anne Mitchell, Joint Owner of the Farm Shop, which is located on the A38 between Taunton and Wellington, says: “We look set to sell more than 8,000 sprouts, 10,000 pigs-in-blankets and 20,000 home-grown potatoes for roasting this Christmas, however, not everyone wants to spend all that time in the kitchen cooking and then washing up the pots and pans, so for those that don’t fancy it, they can tuck into our British and Westcountry-sourced produce with our Christmas roast lunch available from November 28 until December 23.

“Diners will be able to choose from three starters: a smooth cauliflower and chive soup, potted coldwater prawns or a goat’s cheese salad. We’ve a trio of mains too: roast turkey with all the festive accompaniments, baked fillet of cod with lemon, garlic and chorizo or glazed carrot, hazelnut and duxelles. Plus, three desserts: Rumwell Christmas pudding with brandy sauce/double cream, stem ginger brûlée or chocolate brownie and black cherry trifle. Vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free dishes available.”

Bookings for the lunches, available daily, excluding Sundays, from November 28 until December 23, can be made via the Rumwell Farm Shop website at https://bit.ly/3BPSQq0.

“This year we’ve seen a trend towards traditional British festive ingredients and our waiting staff are on-hand to discuss the provenance of our produce with our diners.

“Not only are we set to sell thousands of sprouts, pigs-in-blankets and potatoes in our shop and café, but we also make hundreds of additional Christmas puddings and cakes on-site and more than 1,000 mince pies in our Bakery. Plus, our Jam Kitchen will be cooking up more than 500 special festive chutneys.

“Our Deli team also uses our farm eggs and pork to create a traditional Festive Pie featuring apricots, chestnuts, slices of chicken breast and free-range sausage meat made from our pork. And British and Westcountry cheeses are also proving more popular than ever.”

Rumwell Farm Shop, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, is an independent, family-run, award-winning business owned by the Mitchell family. It was originally a potato store, when David and Anne Mitchell began selling their potatoes and free-range eggs at the gate 25 years ago.

Due to customer demand, the range of products soon increased, and the farm shop grew into the place it is today. David and Anne’s sons, James and Jack, are now also involved in the business, as well as daughters-in-law Sophie and Donna.

Rumwell Farm Shop, which has won nine Taste of the West Gold Awards this year for its shop and café and also for some of its made onsite products, has a traditional Butchery counter selling its home-reared and free-range pork and Rumwell Angus beef. It’s traditional, dry cured back bacon was recently given the title of overall Champion Bacon in the Taste of the West Awards.

There is also a Delicatessen, Bakery, Jam Kitchen, Food Hall, Wine Cellar and Gift Room. Its Café kitchen has also achieved Coeliac UK’s Gluten Free accreditation.

The Rumwell Café is a large and spacious building. The food prepared in the Café kitchen is sourced from the Farm Shop, the Mitchell family farm, which is just four miles away, and other regional suppliers.

Families are welcome to the Café and there is a menu especially for children. It also serves afternoon teas, Sunday carvery and is licensed to sell alcoholic beverages.

A two-course Christmas lunch costs £25.99 and three-courses £29.99 with tea or coffee.

A separate children’s menu for those aged 10 and under is available for two-courses priced at £11.99 per person. This includes a vegetarian option and will be served on a child’s plate. This option is not available for adults.

Booking, pre-ordering and a £20 deposit is essential. To book please visit our website at https://bit.ly/3BPSQq0. Deposits are non-refundable up to 48-hours before the event. Team or work lunch parties very welcome too.
