Winner

EMMA Stallabrass from Cotford St Luke has been declared the winner of Rumwell Farm Shop’s design-a-doughnut for charity competition and will have her winning doughnut flavour on sale throughout April (2021).

The award-winning farm shop invited people to come up with their own unique doughnut filling with the best one being put into production and sold in aid of charity.

Anne Mitchell, Joint Owner of the Farm Shop, located on the A38 between Taunton and Wellington said: “We want to say a huge congratulations to Emma, who entered with a delicious Bakewell tart suggestion!

“This special Doughnut of The Month will be available in our shop from April 6 for £1.25 and online as a pack of three for £3.75 with 10p from every doughnut sold going to our chosen charity for 2021, Conquest Centre.

“Thank you to everyone who entered, we had some amazingly creative ones and lots for Bakewell tart, so the winner was chosen at random.”

Conquest Centre’s aim is to create an inclusive equine environment that will allow people to achieve their personal goals. It offers coaching for disabled and able-bodied clients.

All its activities are delivered by qualified instructors with specialist expertise in working with people with disabilities, behavioural difficulties and emotional problems, and are supported by a team of specially trained volunteers.

Its core activities include riding, carriage driving, horse care, back riding and sensory work. It aims to provide either group or private sessions as appropriate.

Emma said: “We are local to Rumwell and have been shopping there for the past six to seven years and we’re frequent customers in the café, when open, for their fantastic breakfasts!

“We love Rumwell’s doughnuts as they are always unique and taste amazing. I thought a Bakewell version just might work and was delighted when I heard I’d been picked as the winner. The new flavour hasn’t disappointed either! I was given some as my prize and I have given them out to a few friends, and they have said they’re the best doughnuts they’ve ever tried!”

Rumwell Farm Shop is an independent, family-run, award-winning business owned by the Mitchell family. Originally a potato store, David and Anne Mitchell began selling their potatoes and free-range eggs at the gate more than 24 years ago.

Due to customer demand, the product range soon increased, and the business grew. David and Anne’s sons, James and Jack, are now also involved, as well as their daughters-in-law, Sophie and Donna.

Rumwell Farm Shop has a traditional butchery counter selling its home-reared, outdoor-reared pork and Rumwell Angus beef. There is also a delicatessen, bakery, jam kitchen, food hall, wine cellar and gift room.

Its own, home-grown potatoes are available, when in season, as well as everything from fruit, vegetables and groceries to plants, Somerset-grown cut flowers, gifts and cards.

The Rumwell Café, which is currently closed due to restrictions, is a large and spacious building. The food prepared in the café kitchen is sourced from the farm shop, the Mitchell family farm, which is just four miles away, and other regional suppliers.

Families are welcome to the café when it is open and there is a menu especially for children. The café also serves afternoon teas, carvery on a Sunday and is licensed to sell alcoholic beverages.
