PLANT lovers from Southampton can pick up some new plants for their gardens at a plant sale in aid of charity next month (May 2022).

Communicare is hosting the event on May 7 at CommuniBakes, at 21, St James Road in Shirley with all money raised going towards the work it does helping vulnerable and isolated people in Southampton.

Emily Arbery, Fundraising and Finance Coordinator at Communicare, said: “We’re hosting our plant sale at the community bakery, CommuniBakes on May 7 from 10am until 12.30pm.

“People have been asked to sow extra seeds for us and donate plants on the day, and we’re very excited to see what people will very kindly donate for us to sell to help raise funds for us and the work that we do. We hope lots of people come along to the sale. Those that do will be able to pick up a sweet or savoury treat, or two, from the bakery too. It supports our work, so you can enjoy a cake or take home a loaf and know you’re helping people in the area at the same time.”

Communicare, which is a friendly, neighbourhood charity, provides services that enrich the lives of lonely and isolated people in and around Southampton. Its services are staffed by its devoted volunteers, known as Communiteers, who give their time freely.

The charity’s Good Neighbours’ Network is currently supporting around 570 individuals/families through tasks including one-to-one telephone befriending and transport for essential appointments and assistance with shopping.

The services Communicare provides are free to users, although beneficiaries are invited to make a donation if they are able to, and Communiteers are offered expenses.

The Communicare plant sale will take place at CommuniBakes at 21, St James Road, Shirley, Southampton on Saturday, May 7 from 10am until 12.30pm.
