SOUTHAMPTON Pilates instructor Andrea Hill’s recent Charity Day in aid of Communicare at The Atherley Bowling Club on Hill Lane has helped raise £1,624.63 for the organisation (June 2025).
Funds raised from Andrea’s sessions last Saturday (June 14) and the raffle will be used to help the charity with its mission to eradicate loneliness in the city.
Annie Clewlow, Manager of Communicare, which works with the vulnerable and isolated in Southampton, says: “We’re so delighted with the figure raised and Andrea’s tremendous input. We’d like to thank everyone who signed up for one of the sessions and bought a raffle ticket. Sums like this are vital to us and ensure we can continue to help people who need our support, especially in the current economic climate, where budgets are tight.
“Research has found that loneliness can impact on an individual’s physical and mental wellbeing. We’re here to help people live their best lives, rather than to just exist and this money will help significantly.”
Andrea held six 40-minute classes on the day with proceeds to the charity. They included a general mat Pilates, Pilates with a small ball, core strengthening and toning, Pilates with a resistance band, leg strengthening and toning and back strengthening and abdominal toning.
Andrea says: “It was an amazing turn out and everyone had a great time. We also sold loads of raffle tickets. The support I have received from my ladies and men has been truly astounding and I can’t begin to thank everyone enough.”

Communicare is a friendly, neighbourhood charity, which provides services that enrich the lives of isolated people in and around Southampton.
Communicare’s services are staffed by its devoted volunteers, known as Communiteers, who give their time freely.
The charity is currently supporting more than 750 individuals/families through tasks including, befriending, transport for appointments and assistance with shopping and always needs more donations and volunteers to help with its work.
The services it provides are free to users, although beneficiaries are invited to make a donation if they are able to, and Communiteers are offered expenses.
