SOMERSET quizzers put their general knowledge to the test last Friday (January 28, 2022) to help raise funds for charity during a quiz evening at a farm shop in the county.
The Charity Quiz & Supper Evening, which was held at Rumwell Farm Shop in aid of Reminiscence Learning on January 28, raised £720 for the Wellington-based organisation.
Anne Mitchell, Joint Owner of the Farm Shop, which is located on the A38 between Taunton and Wellington, said: “This was our first quiz night of the year and what a brilliant fundraiser it was! The money was collected from entry fees, a raffle and a mini auction, and we had a fabulous, fun-filled evening too.
“We would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to everyone who came along and helped us make such a wonderful amount of money for the charity. The evening went really well and had a lovely atmosphere. It was a great, community-spirited way to kick off our 2022 series of events and to start fundraising for Reminiscence Learning, which is one of our new Charities of the Year.
“Our Charity Quiz & Supper Evenings have been very popular during the past few years and they are a great chance for families, friends and work colleagues to get together for some healthy competition with a good dollop of fun and laughter all added in. Plus, some delicious food prepared and served by our Rumwell Café staff.
“The winning team this time was ‘Faulty Connections’, who were Monica McKee, Jackie Stayt, Carl Kiddell and Jon Sykes. They each won a £10 Rumwell voucher plus the Rumwell Cup. To add to the fun, we had Fiona Mahoney, Chief Executive of Reminiscence Learning here for the evening too, dressed as the charity’s mascot, Archie the scarecrow.

Reminiscence Learning was created and founded in 2001 by Fiona Mahoney, an Occupational Therapist (OT), who has experience in both physical and mental health.
Since its launch, the multi-award-winning national and regional charity, which is based in Wellington, has grown and changed in response to individual and community needs.
Rumwell Farm Shop is an independent, family-run, award-winning business owned by the Mitchell family. It was originally a potato store, when David and Anne Mitchell began selling their potatoes and free-range eggs at the gate.
Due to customer demand, the product range soon increased, and the business grew. David and Anne’s sons, James and Jack, are now also involved, as well as their daughters-in-law, Sophie and Donna.
Rumwell Farm Shop has a traditional Butchery counter selling its home-reared and free-range pork and Rumwell Angus beef. There is also The Rumwell Flower Shed on-site, a Delicatessen, Bakery, Jam Kitchen, Food Hall, Wine Cellar and Gift Room.
Its own, home-grown potatoes are available, when in season, as well as everything from fruit, vegetables and groceries to plants, mostly British-grown cut flowers, gifts and cards.
The Rumwell Café is a large and spacious building. The food prepared in the café kitchen is sourced from the Farm Shop, the Mitchell family farm, which is just four miles away, and other regional suppliers.
Families are welcome to the café and there is a menu especially for children. It also serves afternoon teas, roast carvery Sunday lunches and is licensed to sell alcoholic beverages.
