Communicare

A RECRUITMENT company in Southampton has donated chocolates to a charity in the city to be distributed to the lonely and isolated in the community during the current Coronavirus lockdown (May 2020).

REED has given Communicare, which aims to eradicate loneliness in Southampton and offers assistance and support to many vulnerable and elderly residents, the chocolates to distribute to its service users.

Volunteer for the charity, Kathy Hicken said: “We’re very grateful that REED has given us this chocolate. It will really boost the morale of those who are currently stuck at home and help make their lives a whole lot more bearable in the current situation. It was very kind of the company and its team to think of our service users at this time.

“A sweet treat such as chocolate can be a great mood enhancer. Chocolate contains the chemical phenylethylamine, which triggers the release of endorphins, therefore boosting your mood!”

Communicare is a friendly, neighbourhood charity that wants to eradicate loneliness and isolation in Southampton with the assistance of its band of Communiteers, who volunteer to give their time freely.

The charity’s Good Neighbours’ Network normally supports nearly 400 individuals/families annually, covering more than 2,300 tasks including one-to-one befriending, transport to activities, such as the regular lunch clubs and tea parties it hosted before the lockdown and shopping for, or, pre-COVID-19, with, those it helps.
