THE TEAM at Rumwell Farm Shop in Somerset is celebrating once again this year after achieving a golden set of results in the latest 2026 Taste of the West Awards (June 2026).
The family-run business on the A38 between Taunton and Wellington has been awarded an impressive haul of accolades for its homemade products, including six Golds, a Silver and four Commended entries.
Farm Shop Partner, Anne Mitchell says: “Winning across such a wide range of categories this year is a real testament to the passion, creativity and consistency of our whole team. To achieve so many Gold awards again in 2026 is something we’re incredibly proud of.
“These awards recognise not just the finished products our customers see in the shop, but the care that goes into every stage – from our farm to our kitchens and counters.”
Among this year’s top honours, Rumwell Farm Shop secured Gold awards for its Made At Rumwell Gluten Free Bakewell Blondie, Shortbread Bakewell, White Sourdough Loaf, Lardy Cake, Sweet & Sour Pork Tapas and Bolognese Sauce.
The Farm Shop also achieved a Silver award for its Gluten Free Scotch Egg.
In addition, several products were Highly Commended, including its Smokey BBQ Beef Truffle, its Free Range Nitrate Free Bacon, Homemade Hash Browns and Pear & Cider Chutney.
Sophie Mitchell, fellow Partner at the Farm Shop, adds: “It’s especially rewarding to see recognition across so many areas of the business – from our Bakery and Gluten Free Kitchen to our Butchery and ready meals.
“Our Gluten Free Bakewell Blondie taking Gold is a brilliant example of how far that side of the business has come, while staples like our sourdough and new product development such as the Sweet & Sour Pork Tapas show how our teams are continuing to innovate too.
“To also receive commendations across categories demonstrates the depth of quality we’re producing every day. These awards mean a great deal to us and to our teams, who work incredibly hard to deliver the very best for our customers.”
Rumwell Farm Shop is an independent, family-run, award-winning business owned by the Mitchell family. It was originally a potato store, when David and Anne Mitchell began selling their potatoes and free-range eggs at the gate nearly 30 years ago.
Due to customer demand, the range of products soon increased, and the Farm Shop grew into the place it is today. David and Anne’s sons, James and Jack, are now also involved in the business, as well as their wives, Sophie and Donna.
The Shop has a traditional Butchery counter selling its home-reared and free-range pork and Rumwell Angus beef. Also onsite is the new, purpose-built Rumwell Orchard events space, a Delicatessen, Bakery, Jam Kitchen, Food Hall, Wine Cellar, Gluten Free Kitchen, Food To Go service and Gift Room.
The food prepared in the Café kitchen is sourced from the Farm Shop, the Mitchell family farm, which is just four miles away, and other regional suppliers. The Café kitchen has Coeliac UK’s Gluten Free accreditation.
The business consistently wins multiple Taste of the West awards annually for its products as well as its Shop and Café. In 2025 it scooped six Golds and one Silver for items made onsite and this year the Shop and Café have both already received prestigious Gold awards.
In 2024, it took eight Taste of the West Awards for its homemade products – four category Golds and four Silvers – the Farm Shop also received Gold Awards in both the Farm Shop and Café/Tearoom categories.
Taste of the West, established in 1991, is the regional food and drink organisation for the South West of England. It champions and supports the highest quality produce from across the region.
