FAMILIES from Somerset are invited to an award-winning farm shop this month (October 2020) for a spooky Halloween afternoon tea.
Rumwell Farm Shop, which is located on the A38 between Taunton and Wellington, is hosting the tea on Friday, October 30 and Saturday, October 31 after 3.30pm to celebrate Halloween.
Anne Mitchell, Joint Owner of the farm shop, said: “Our Halloween celebration will include a table-based afternoon tea with a picture to colour for each child.
“Youngsters will get the chance to draw a frightening face on one of our pumpkins and our staff will take it away to the kitchen and carve the design for them to take home.
“Children and adults are welcome to come in fancy dress and we’re looking forward to seeing lots of scary ghosts and witches. All other forms of fancy dress would be welcome as well! We’ll be presenting a prize for the best fancy dress on both days too.
“We’re looking forward to seeing some of the fabulous costumes that we’re sure children and adults will come in. All the children who attend will be able to enjoy a special spooky themed selection of food including sandwiches, juice, fruit, horror sweets and cakes. Refreshments will be available for adults to order too.”
Rumwell Farm Shop is an independent, family-run, award-winning business owned by the Mitchell family. Originally a potato store, David and Anne Mitchell began selling their potatoes and free-range eggs at the gate more than 23 years ago.
Due to customer demand, the product range soon increased, and the business grew. David and Anne’s sons, James and Jack, are now also involved, as well as their daughters-in-law, Sophie and Donna.
Rumwell Farm Shop has a traditional butchery counter selling its home-reared, free range pork and Aberdeen Angus beef. There is also a delicatessen, bakery, jam kitchen, food hall, wine cellar and gift room.
Its own, home-grown potatoes are available, when in season, as well as everything from fruit, vegetables and groceries to plants, Somerset-grown cut flowers, gifts and cards.
The Rumwell Café is a large and spacious building. The food prepared in the café kitchen is sourced from the farm shop, the Mitchell family farm, which is just four miles away, and other regional suppliers.
Families are welcome to the café and there is a menu especially for children. The café also serves afternoon teas, carvery on a Sunday and is licensed to sell alcoholic beverages.
Tickets for the Halloween afternoon tea cost £8.50 per child and include afternoon tea, a picture to colour and a pumpkin to create a design on, which will be carved by the Rumwell Café team for children to take home.

Booking is essential and can only be made in-person or by telephone. Parties of six people or less only. Children must be supervised and remain at their table.
Attendees are asked to arrive no more than five minutes before their booking to help prevent queuing. Entry to the café is currently from the outside only not from within the shop.
