A SOMERSET Farm Shop’s Bakery team has brought home a haul of top awards from the recent Craft Bakers Association (CBA) Western Region Championships at the Bako Show in Devon (2026).

Competing against bakeries from across the region, Rumwell Farm Shop, located between Taunton and Wellington, impressed the judges with the quality, skill and creativity of its entries, earning recognition across several categories.

Anne Mitchell, a Partner in the business, says: “We’re absolutely delighted with the results from the Craft Bakers Association Western Region Championships at the Bako Show.

“To come away with five top three awards across such a wide range of categories is a real testament to the commitment, passion and hard work of our super-talented Bakery team. The highlight for us was winning first place in the ‘innovative take on a Lardy Cake’ category.

“This perfectly represents what we love to do here – respecting traditional bakes while bringing creativity and modern ideas into everything we produce. We’re incredibly proud of the team and what they continue to achieve.”

Rumwell Farm Shop also scouped second place prizes for its White Sourdough Loaf and its Eccles Cakes and came third for its Speciality Doughnuts and Brownies.

The prestigious championships, held as part of the Bako Show in Cullompton in March, form part of the Craft Bakers Association’s Western Region competitions, which celebrate excellence, craftsmanship and innovation in artisan baking.

Commenting on the results, Casey Stoddart, CBA Western Region President‑Elect, who is also Commercial Director of Burns the Bread Ltd in Glastonbury, adds: “Rumwell Farm Shop’s Bakery team should be incredibly proud of these results. The standard across the competition was extremely high and to come away with five awards, including a first place, is a real achievement. It reflects the skill, dedication and passion of the bakers, and the consistent quality of the products they produce day in, day out. Competitions like the CBA Western Region Championships exist to celebrate craft baking at its very best.”

The awards further underline Rumwell Farm Shop’s commitment to high‑quality, handmade baking and reinforce its reputation as a leading destination for artisan food in the South West.

Rumwell Farm Shop is an independent, family-run, award-winning business owned by the Mitchell family. It was originally a potato store, when David and Anne Mitchell began selling their potatoes and free-range eggs at the gate more than 25 years ago.

Due to customer demand, the range of products soon increased, and the Farm Shop grew into the place it is today. David and Anne’s sons, James and Jack, are now also involved in the business, as well as their wives, Sophie and Donna.

As well as its artisan Bakery, Rumwell Farm Shop has a traditional Butchery counter selling its home-reared and free-range pork and Rumwell Angus beef. Also onsite is the new, purpose-built Rumwell Orchard events space, a Delicatessen, Jam Kitchen, Food Hall, Wine Cellar, Gluten Free Kitchen, Food To Go service and Gift Room.

The food prepared in the Café kitchen is sourced from the Farm Shop, the Mitchell family farm, which is just four miles away, and other regional suppliers. The Café kitchen has Coeliac UK’s Gluten Free accreditation.
