SOPHIE Cridland from Taunton has recently been appointed as the new Events’ Manager at an award-winning farm shop in the county to oversee its events’ programme and its new extension (September 2022).

The 34-year-old is currently forward planning for the new Café extension at Rumwell Farm Shop, located just off the M5 on the A38 between Taunton and Wellington.

She said: “I am thrilled to have joined the team at Rumwell Farm Shop as its new Events’ Manager and I have already got thoroughly stuck into my new role. Alongside event planning, I am also working in the Café helping serve, meeting customers and getting to know the rest of the Rumwell team, who have all been extremely friendly and welcoming.

“The new building is an overflow for the Café for diners to use and can also be booked for use for private events, such as parties, anniversaries, vow renewals, wedding receptions, wakes and more, complete with its own bar and toilets. We hope to have the new building officially open in early 2023 and I am already taking bookings for people wishing to host meetings, activities and special occasions in the extension and I am planning a fantastic timetable of Rumwell Farm Shop events for people to enjoy too.

“I am very excited and proud to be part of the decision-making process and the design of the new extension. There’s so much to think about but I like the challenge of something new and enjoy the pressure of getting the bookings in.

“We are already having enquiries coming in for events and I like to get back to people as quickly as I can with information and quotes based on their requirements.

“It’s a very exciting time to have joined the team at Rumwell Farm Shop and I am very excited for the future. If anyone would like to enquire about hosting an event in the new extension, they can email me via events@rumwellfarmshop.com too.”

Sophie has worked in catering since she was 15-years-old and has experience working in small boutique hotels to wedding venues. More recently she worked at Somerset Cricket Club as Deputy Catering Manager, where she met Rumwell Farm Shop owners Anne and David Mitchell at an event.

In her spare time, Sophie enjoys spending time with her friends and family as well as swimming, going to the gym and baking.

Anne Mitchell, Joint Owner of the farm shop, said: “We are thrilled that Sophie has joined the team, she has a wealth of experience in catering and events and is the perfect person to help us take our new extension forward and create a space for everyone to enjoy.”

Rumwell Farm Shop is an independent, family-run, award-winning business owned by the Mitchell family. It was originally a potato store, when David and Anne Mitchell began selling their potatoes and free-range eggs at the gate 25 years ago.

Due to customer demand, the range of products soon increased, and the farm shop grew into the place it is today. David and Anne’s sons, James and Jack, are now also involved in the business, as well as daughters-in-law Sophie and Donna.

Rumwell Farm Shop has a traditional Butchery counter selling its home-reared and free-range pork and Rumwell Angus beef. There is also a Delicatessen, Bakery, Jam Kitchen, Food Hall, Wine Cellar and Gift Room on-site.

The Rumwell Café is a large and spacious building. The food prepared in the Café kitchen is sourced from the Farm Shop, the Mitchell family farm, which is just four miles away, and other regional suppliers.

Families are welcome to the Café and there is a menu especially for children. It also serves afternoon teas, Sunday carvery and is licensed to sell alcoholic beverages.
