A SOUTHAMPTON charity supporting vulnerable and isolated people in the city is hosting its annual conference for its volunteers this month (March 2023).

The Communicare conference will take place on Saturday, March 25 and will include a variety of workshops for attendees and a celebration event for its Communiteers.

Rebecca Beddall, Lead Coordinator at Communicare, explains: “We’re really looking forward to our annual volunteer conference. There is lots going on throughout the day.

“We will have a choice of workshops, including spiritual care, hearing and dual sensory loss, mental health, living with loss, find your patch, skills for telephone calls and looking after ourselves and others. Attendees can discuss and share skills they have during the workshops or learn something completely new, which will hopefully help them with their volunteering roles with us.

“We’ll also have a fun game of ‘Would I Lie to You’, a raffle, long service awards and cake, supplied by our wonderful commercial venture, CommuniBakes.

“During the afternoon, we’ll have more workshops, including an introduction and insight into sight loss, ways to wellbeing, an introduction to Dementia Friends and help and advice on managing stress effectively, as well as a creative session to finish off the day.”

The conference is open to Communicare volunteers only and anyone interested in attending, should get in touch via enquiry@communicareinsouthampton.org.uk or call 023 8250 0050.

Communicare, which is a friendly, neighbourhood charity, provides services that enrich the lives of isolated people in and around Southampton.

Communicare’s services are staffed by its devoted volunteers, known as Communiteers, who give their time freely.

The charity is currently supporting around 600 individuals/families through tasks including, befriending, transport for appointments and assistance with shopping.

The services Communicare provides are free to users, although beneficiaries are invited to make a donation if they are able to, and Communiteers are offered expenses.
