A SOMERSET chef who recently undertook a climbing challenge that meant he was swapping his day job whisking peaks for scaling them has helped raise more than £2,400 for charity (July 2024).
Rumwell Farm Shop’s Café Kitchen Second Chef, Tim Sandy, did a Kilimanjaro Climb in June for Alzheimer’s Society and has just revealed the final total he has raised.
He says: “I have witnessed first-hand how cruel this disease is, which is why I chose to raise money for this particular charity. I’ve had a lot of very kind donations and have given more than £2,400 to Alzheimer’s Society. Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me.”
Tim climbed Kilimanjaro via the ‘Lemosho Route’, which included seven days of trekking to the summit, where temperatures can be as low as -21°C.
Tim, who lives in Watchet, adds: “I’m delighted to be able to give this money to Alzheimer’s Society to help them battle this terrible disease and support sufferers.”
Alzheimer’s Society is working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives by giving help to those living with it. It’s also providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.
