A SOMERSET chef has cooked up a special climbing challenge that will see him exchanging his kitchen kit for some all-weather outdoor gear this summer (2024).

Tim Sandy, who is Rumwell Farm Shop’s Café Kitchen Second Chef, is doing a Kilimanjaro Climb to help raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society in June.

He says: “I have witnessed first-hand how cruel this disease is, which is why I have chosen to raise money for this particular charity.”

Tim would like to collect £1 for every metre in height of Kilimanjaro and he’s hoping people sponsor him to help him reach his fundraising goal by donating via his JustGiving page.

He will be climbing via the ‘Lemosho Route’. This includes seven days of trekking to the summit, where temperatures can feel as low as -21°C.

Tim, who lives in Watchet, adds: “My aim is to raise £5,895 for the Alzheimer’s Society to help them battle this terrible disease and support sufferers. Please help if you can by sponsoring me by going to my JustGiving page www.justgiving.com/page/tim-sandy-1680933222534.”

Alzheimer’s Society is working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives by giving help to those living with it. It’s also providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Anne Mitchell, Partner at the multi-award-winning Farm Shop, which is on the A38 between Taunton and Wellington, says: “This is such an amazing idea and we’re in awe of Tim for signing up for it. We’re delighted to be able to assist him. We all hope he reaches his fundraising goal before June 20 and makes it to the summit too.

“As well as supporting Tim with publicising his fundraising campaign, we’re also helping him raise awareness of the charity. Tim is a wonderful member of our team and we’re fully behind him.”
