Relax – don’t think of the audience at home just talk to the interviewer on a one-to-one basis.
Never move around when speaking – stand as still as possible – movement will detract from what you are saying and also looks as if you are nervous and not genuine.
Be prepared – read your media release on the topic you are being interviewed about or look up information on it.
Write five keys points you wish to get across on a piece of paper before the interview. But don’t read from this. Check the notes before the interview.
Use the name of the organisation you represent in your answers where possible and where it does not seem false. For example: ‘Here at …we have…’
Many good TV stations especially the BBC will keep your number in case someone calls them for it – ask the producer or researcher before the show to keep your details in case they get callers.
