TRI-STAR Packaging is working with major environmental award-winners Hana Group UK & Ireland and Sharpak to bring more sustainable packaging solutions to the food-to-go sector.
The nation’s innovative disposable packaging expert is collaborating on the Mai Sushi brand, which won ‘Sustainable Brand of the Year’ at the inaugural Packaging News’ Environmental Packaging Awards.
Picking up the award, Steve Norris, Managing Director at Tri-Star, said: “Tri-Star Packaging is extremely proud to be a key supplier partner with the sustainable brand of the Year Hana Group.
“We are at the forefront of packaging innovation and sustainability within our industry. Winning this award is a testament to our relentless pursuit of redefining packaging excellence and our passion for bringing industry leading solutions to market.”
The award was presented for the Hana Group’s Mai Sushi brand, which is made from recycled material.
Once used, the pack can also be recycled, making plastic its own resource. The packaging is designed and manufactured by Sharpak, part of Group GUIILIN, and delivered by Tristar Packaging.
Jason Danciger, Managing Director of Hana Group UK says: “At Hana Group we have been focused on making positive environmental and social changes for several years. We have been working hard to achieve a sustainable future for our business and are consistently looking at ways to have a positive impact.
“We believe through innovation and working with our partners we can make a difference. We know we have shared values and beliefs in protecting the ocean and making the world a better place for everyone.”
The packaging is manufactured from Prevented Ocean Plastic™ (POP), a global recycling initiative which helps tens of thousands of people around the world earn a living, clean their coastlines and prevent ocean plastic. Every time a product with the POP logo is purchased, it’s preventing plastic from reaching the ocean.
Jason adds: “Within our Mai Sushi brand, we have always used recycled and recyclable packaging, however the opportunity to pair our products with packaging from Sharpak using the POP supply chain is an extremely exciting next step in our journey.”
Hana began a packaging trial in early 2022 at two sites where the Mai Sushi brand was served, including Marks and Spencer’s headquarters in London. Then, from July 2022, sushi packs made with POP were delivered into 22 further sites.
