THREE S Roberts Group team members have been recognised this month after notching up more than 100 years of service between them for the Bridgwater-based award-winning Somerset waste management company (September 2024).
Contracts Manager, Merv Brewer has marked 46 years of service with the company this year, Accounts Administrator, Luan Noble 36 years and Office Manager, Natasha Butcher has celebrated 26 years.
Asbestos & Demolition Director, Vicky Owens, who is the granddaughter of the company’s founder Samuel Roberts, says: “I’d like to congratulate Merv, Luan and Natasha on their momentous milestones and to thank them for their hard work and unwavering support and dedication to their work colleagues and our customers across all those years.”
Based in Bridgwater, Somerset, S Roberts Group is a third-generation family firm run by Vicky and her sister Beccy Roberts, who took over the business from their father, Terry Roberts, in 2004.
The team work closely in partnership with clients to ensure health and safety standards are maintained and to deliver an efficient and environmentally conscious service.
Merv joined S Roberts Group aged 25. He began his employment driving skip lorries and, in between deliveries and collections, Terry taught Merv to drive and operative machines.
Moving on to the tipper lorries, Merv also worked on various demolitions, eventually progressing into the office. The experience he has gained during the years has enabled him to be an excellent Demolition Estimator/Contracts Manager; coming up with solutions on some very challenging sites. He has worked closely alongside Vicky for the past 30 years.
Vicky adds: “Merv has Roberts in his heart and is an integral part of the family and team; we are where we are today because of his knowledge, enthusiasm and natural drive, which he still has to this day.”
Luan started at S Roberts Group working full time on a Youth Training Scheme aged just 16.
Waste & Recycling Director, Beccy Roberts says: “Luan joined us when there was a manual system on the wall for the skips and radio communication with all the skip drivers. For the weekly wages, she would count the cash along with Vicky and put into brown envelopes for the employees’ pay packets.
“Going part-time after having children she continues to enjoy working for us in our busy office. Luan always comes in with a smile on her face and a cheerful disposition, renowned for her distinctive laugh, making the office atmosphere a joy to work in!
“Tash joined Roberts straight from college, aged 17, to work in the skip hire department as an Administrator. There were only three staff in the earlier days and over the years she worked in various roles learning about each department and working her way up to the highly respected Office Manager she is today.
“Tash is at the heart of our office operations and like Luan and Merv a part of our family. We have watched her two lovely girls, Issie and Grace grow, coming in to get on with their schoolwork, enabling Tash to carry on during the busier periods. We don’t know what we would do without her!
“Merv, Luan and Natasha are enthusiastic, committed individuals who are a real asset to our dedicated and friendly team. We’re delighted to have recently celebrated their amazing achievements with them and look forward to more years working together.”
