A BRIDGWATER salon is one of the first in the UK to trial 100% recyclable gowns instead of using disposable plastic ones in a bid to become more eco-friendly (August 2021).
Somerset Salon of the Year 2020/21 MANE is trialling CARTIM Recyclables’ Polyair™ gowns made from sugar cane waste, which are an environmentally friendly and hygienic alternative to single use plastics.
Jade Ogden, Co-owner of the salon, which is in Angel Crescent, says: “It’s exciting to be one of the first salons to trial these new Polyair™ gowns. Plastic waste is a huge problem in our industry and taking steps to tackle this is vital on an individual and collective scale.
“We’re delighted to have been supplied by CARTIM Recyclables with these carbon neutral recyclable gowns that adhere to our ethos of sustainable beauty.”
With more salons in Somerset making an effort to be better educated about sustainable choices available to them, CARTIM Recyclables hopes that it can help businesses like MANE reduce their waste and their carbon footprints.
CARTIM Recyclables’ Director, Tim Champion explains: “It’s great to be working with MANE to trial our product and supply them with the materials they need to make more sustainable choices.
“Our gowns allow them to go above and beyond with hygiene levels even now after Covid restrictions have lifted. This fills a need in the personal care industry, while also continuing to keep customers safe. Using our gowns also helps save water, an invaluable resource that needs conserving, and reduces the need for washing detergents, as traditional fabric gowns need washing after every customer use.
“Our Polyair™ gowns offer the highest standard of hygiene without compromising the planet. We look forward to providing our planet-positive products to even more hairdressers and barbers in the coming weeks and months. People can order from us by calling 01458 272057 or by visiting www.cartimrecyclables.co.uk.”
CARTIM Recyclables’ gowns are designed to protect a hairdresser or barber’s clients against hair, water and colour.
Made from Polyair™, its gowns are the only 100% recyclable, carbon neutral material currently available and are PAS2050 carbon neutral certified.
Tim continues: “This is truly the greenest material we know of and it will help hairdressers and barbers improve their green credentials and dramatically reduce their carbon footprints.
“Polyair™ is a soft, clear material that provides a commercially viable alternative to standard polythene. It is bio-based and is made from sugar cane waste. It’s the process of photosynthesis as the plant grows that makes this material carbon neutral and our product 100% recyclable.”
Polyair™ is manufactured in Witney, Oxfordshire and extruded, cut and packed exclusively at the CARTIM factory in Somerset, resulting in a ‘Made In Britain’ product.
Gowns have neck ties and are 1200mm x 1200mm adequate to fully cover a hairdresser or barber’s client while seated.
Every business that buys the gowns will receive a certificate stating that for every 100kg of Polyair™ used, 260kg of CO2 is prevented from entering the atmosphere.
CARTIM Recyclables is the sister company to Needles and Pins (UK) Ltd and Tica Lily Ltd.
Carole adds: “Tica Lily is another exciting venture of ours that is soon to be launched too offering wonderful household and clothing collections made from 100% linen.”
The team at CARTIM Recyclables cut and pack its gowns in its Somerton factory, then deliver and collect the used items from its clients for recycling.
